Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is facing uncertainty after multiple news reports said Superintendent Crystal Hill is no longer leading the district. CMS has not publicly announced a leadership change, and officials had not responded to requests for comment as of Wednesday afternoon. Speculation intensified after Hill was absent from recent graduation ceremonies and the district’s annual leadership conference. In this video, we revisit Hill’s message to students at Idlewild Elementary on the first day of the 2024-25 school year, when she encouraged them to “focus on being 1% better every day." School board member Liz Monterrey Duvall told the Observer the district plans to release a statement Wednesday evening after 5 p.m. ✍️: Nora O’Neill
